Human – Borelian Trade Wars

Conflict Name: The Human – Borelian Trade Wars
Timeframe: 2356–2361 (Earth Standard Years)
Primary Belligerents: Human Colonial Alliance (HCA) vs. The Unified Borelian Trade Clans
Location: 9th Galactic Ring and fringe sectors of the 8th Ring
Outcome: Ceasefire brokered by Ardnant mediators; establishment of formal trade regulations; Human integration to Galactic society.

Background

The Trade Wars erupted following two years of good trade relations which came about after first contact between the newly space faring humans and the resource-dominant Borelians. Initially cordial, relations quickly soured due to predatory trade tactics by the Borelians and human retaliation through technological adaptation and industrial espionage.

Humanity’s meteoric advancements challenged the Borelian monopoly on salvage, trade routes, and rare resource control. The Borelians, unaccustomed to resistance, especially from a species they viewed as primitive, overextended their influence, and underestimated human resolve.

Major Events

2356 – First Contact: Human freighters and Borelians establish temporary trade pacts. Initial optimism is short-lived.

2358 – Escalation Begins: Disputes over trade violations and territorial rights lead to Borelian embargoes and seizures of human vessels. The HCA responds with retaliatory strikes and coordinated economic sabotage.

2359 – Skirmishes Spread: Space engagements erupt across major supply corridors. Human ingenuity, particularly in reverse-engineering Borelian tech, leads to the rise of elite military fleets, pushing back the Borelian Bombardments on Human Trade worlds and outpost moons killing millions in the process.

2360 – Siege of Orvnok: In a bold strategic maneuver, human forces blockade the Borelian homeworld. The Humans in their retaliation, lead a massive surge of orbital bombardments against the planet, killing millions and obliterating entire cities on the planet. This unexpected show of force shifts galactic attention and provokes Council scrutiny.

2361 – Ardnant Mediation: Fearing full-scale war, the Ardnant intervene diplomatically. Until now, the only Alien contact the Humans had encountered was the Borelians. Negotiations begin aboard The Hub and continue through secret sessions on neutral systems. all the while the Orvnok blockade remained in place, although orbital strikes had been halted.

2362 – Ceasefire & Treaty of Zhrak-Ra: A formal peace agreement is signed. Borelians relinquish exclusive salvage rights, and humans gain access to vital trade routes. The treaty includes economic reforms, trade regulations, and oversight protocols.

Long-Term Consequences

  • Human Galactic Recognition: The conflict opens the door to galactic society for Humanity, proving their capability and adaptability.
  • Borelian Decline in Trade Dominance: Their monopolistic practices are curbed, forcing reforms within the Trade Clans.
  • Technological Advancement: Humanity’s use of salvaged and hybridised tech accelerates their industrial growth.
  • Lingering Hostility: Despite the treaty, deep cultural resentment lingers. Borelian – Human relations remain cold, with only minimal trade resuming over a century later.

Legacy

The Trade Wars are viewed as a coming-of-age moment for humanity, one that exposed their duality as both builders and breakers. For the Borelians, it marked a humbling chapter that reshaped their economic philosophy. For the galaxy at large, it was a lesson in underestimation and the volatile nature of interspecies commerce.
