F.A.Q For BattleDrones

  • Will there be multiplayer in the game?
    • Depending whether or not we are able to get funding, yes, there will be a PvP Multiplayer eventually in the full game. But at the moment for our alpha demo, we have chosen to display our Time Trial battle mode. This focuses on defeating enemy AI drones in the quickest time and saving that time to a live leader board.
  • Will there be a racing mode, a long the lines of the Drone Racing League?
    • Yes, we are currently working on the racing mode for the game now. We will make this available in the demo as an update when we have it working as planned. We want the mechanics to work similar to Mario kart and Wipeout i.e. choose drones, choose races, set up tournaments, race friends, and power-ups all whilst zooming around in your customised drone.
  • What platform will the game be on?
    • At the moment we are only developing for PC, but depending on the success of our demo, we may implement plans for Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.
  • Does the game have game pad support?
    • The game has partial game pad support at the moment, ie. it works in game but you can’t navigate the menus with it at the moment. When we ship the main game, it will come with game pad support. We plan to look in to joystick support too.
  • Why isn’t the game on Steam?
    • We do have plans to submit the game to Steam as soon as we are happy with it, but for now we will host the download of the game ourselves. When we ship the main game, we will have all our marketplaces in order to make the download easier for you guys.
  • Why use Unreal over Unity?
    • We don’t actually have anybody that knows how to code properly on our team, and Unreal offers a visual coding system that’s a lot more user friendly to pick up and learn. The support documents and dev community are amazing, and to be quite honest, we admire their willingness to help out the developers with generous rates to ship games on their Engine, no initial licensing fee, and the Unreal Development grant are just a few reasons why we chose Unreal as our engine of choice.
  • Have you thought about having your game in an E-Sports tournament?
    • We feel like this game has great potential to be a great game in the world of E-Sports, and of course we would love that to happen, but its out of our hands. It’s you… the players of our game that ultimately decide whether our game does well or not. All we can do is try and make the best game we possibly can to play and enjoy.
  • What power-ups are in the game?
    • At the moment for our demo release we have, line of sight rockets, 15 second invincible shield and a change station, all of which are explained in detail here. We are working on several more for the main game and may include some of them in updates for the demo.
  • How many maps does the game have to play in?
    • At the moment, for the demo there are 3 maps. The main game will have 5 maps at launch, with a possibility to add more through dlc.
  • How many levels will the Time Trial Battle mode have?
    • The demo will launch with 3 levels for each map, but we plan to be adding a couple of levels each month for free as updates. There’s an idea floating around at the moment that we do a monthly recycle of the levels, so we have 3 new levels each month and the old levels are taken away and brought back a couple of months later, to mix things up a bit. But we’ll see, it’s early days still. You can view info on the levels we have at the moment here.
  • Because there is no dedicated log in system can my account be stolen?
    • Your level and unlock progress is safe and can’t be changed by anybody other than you, as this is saved locally on your machine. Your username is also stored locally but there is no protection from people copying your username and beating your score with your own username. The way to combat this at the moment is to use an account name that is already unique to you like a Xbox Live/PSN/Steam name etc. The main game will have a proper login system that’s connected to the platform you’re playing on.
  • How many drones are in the game?
    • At the launch of the demo you will have 18 drones to play with, that all handle and play differently. At launch of the full game we plan to have double that amount, and plan to add more as DLC
  • Some of the drones are greyed out, why is it that?
    • We have a level up system in the game, as you level up more drones will be available to you. Every drone plays differently, so it’s worth sticking around.
  • How does the customisation work?
    • So our drones are built in 2 pieces, the body and the arms. These each have stats assigned to them like speed, health, damage, fire rate etc. When 2 pieces are selected, the stats from each piece are added together to build the final stats for the drone. We’ve split the drones in to light, medium and heavy categories, but you can mix and match between the categories to create a hybrid. for the main game we plan to expand this system and place category specific power ups that only work if your drone is from that category, as well as power ups that only work if you have a hybrid. This will encourage the players to experiment with drones and get to use some cool unique power-ups.
  • How do I change my username?
    • Navigate to where you installed the game, find the ”BATTLEDRONESGAME” folder, then find the ”Saved” folder then ”SavedGames” then delete/move ”PlayerSave.sav” this encompasses your username. The ”PlayerInfo.sav” encompasses your player level and EXP. (Only move/delete this if you would like to start again)
